* Notes
Since 1984, Kentucky has had a ban on nuclear power plant construction.
Both Oklahoma and West Virginia have experienced increased energy demands, and there are proposals in both states to seek permits for nuclear power plants. However, given the costs associated with permitting applications and building nuclear plants, which can be upwards of $8 billion for a 1,600-watt facility, as well as the extraordinary length of time it requires to get a plant online (as long as a decade), neither state has gone forward with their plans.
