Dear Friends and Colleagues,
As Chair of the Southern Legislative Conference, it is my pleasure to welcome you to St. Louis, where the spirit and determination reflect many of the best features Missouri has to offer. Having served as the Gateway City for the westward expansion and first North American city to host the Olympics, St. Louis is proud to host more than 1,300 state legislative leaders, lawmakers, staff and others for what promises to be a very special SLC Annual Meeting.
Policy sessions feature nationally recognized experts on critical topics for the Southern region. Several of our state government leaders will discuss successes of the Show-Me State on aging inmate populations, mental health services for youth and economic development strategies. Further dialogue on existing and emerging state government innovations and solutions continue a tradition of excellence that has established the Annual Meeting as the best attended and most anticipated regional meeting of state legislators and staff.
Our dedicated Host State Committee and coordinators have arranged many outstanding events that embody the rich history, world-class sports teams and amazing culture of the Show-Me State. Our opening event at Ballpark Village is complete with appearances from former professional athletes. Family night at the Saint Louis Zoo – voted America’s top free attraction and the best zoo in the United States – welcomes the SLC family to an evening of adventure.
While in our great state, you will experience the Southern hospitality of our community of legislators, legislative staff and volunteers. For many, the Gateway City has served as a starting point for adventure and opportunity, and I am confident you will find it the same.

72nd Annual Meeting of the Southern Legislative Conference
Convened as the focal point and culmination of its yearly activities, the Annual Meeting of the Southern Legislative Conference is the nation's largest regional gathering of state legislators, legislative staff and government officials, and the premier public policy forum for Southern state legislatures.
Focusing on both existing and emerging state government innovations and solutions, the SLC Annual Meeting provides policymakers diverse opportunities to engage regional and national policy experts about the issues that matter most to them and their constituents. As the foundation of policy discussions, officers of the Conference's six standing committees select the most critical and relevant state government policy issues facing the Southern region as committee session topics.
Of equal benefit, numerous informal discussions allow state government officials to share their knowledge and experiences with colleagues facing similar challenges and opportunities. This hallmark of the SLC Annual Meeting gives policymakers an opportunity to meet and collaborate on a broad spectrum of state government issues.
Each year, the SLC annual meeting reminds participants of the tradition of hospitality that is the trademark of the South and shines a spotlight on the host state’s year-long planning to accommodate members from across the region with special activities and events unique to both the host city and state.
